What is WannaCry?

If you have stayed up with the news you might have heard of a type of ransomeware called WannaCry.

What WannaCry does is holds your computer "captive" until you give money. Sometimes they don't even give your computer files back. It encrypts all your files so you cannot open them.

But don't worry. As long as you update your computer and don't download shady files you should be fine.

Smartphone Cameras

As you may or may not know, I am super into technology.

In this video the presenter (MKBHD), was explaining how smartphone cameras work.

At the start of the video he fixed a common misunderstanding, the more megapixels, the better the camera.

The things that matter are the sensor, image stabilization. aperture, and processing.

The bigger the sensor the better. For example the Nokia Lumia 1020, has a HUGE sensor.

Image stabilization comes in two forms: Digital Image Stabilization (DIS), and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). OIS is better because, it has a gyroscopic device that stabilizes the image while DIS is computer generated.

Aperture describes the amount of light let in.

As you can see f/1.4 has a larger opening to let more light in.

Processing is based on how the smartphone takes in the image. For example some phones may over expose the image and Some may under expose.

Matter Unit Test

After weeks of studying matter we had a unit test. I scored a 93% on it.

That means I got two questions wrong.

The first question I got wrong was this:

"Four materials are put into small containers. These materials are then moved from the small containers into large containers. Which materials will spread out to completely fill larger container?"
A. air
B. ice
C. sand
D. water

I chose water because, I knew that it could change shape. I just did not read the word "completely," so I got it wrong. The correct answer is air.

The second one I got wrong was:

"Within a substance, atoms that collide frequently and move independently of one another are most likely in which state of matter?"
A. liquid
B.water
C. gas
D. solid

I chose liquid because, I thought if they collide frequently they will be a liquid, but liquids slid past one another. The correct answer was C.

I definitely could have gotten a higher score. My pretest score was a 67% (and that's when we did not learn anything yet). Myt grade raised by 26%!
